GEO Drilling Fluids traces its roots to 1950 when Calada Materials Inc. was formed. In 1977, GEO Drilling Fluids, Inc., a publicly traded company, acquired Calada Materials. Western Mud Inc. which originated in 1968, was acquired by GEO Drilling Fluids in 1981. Many of the current managers and employees were Western Mud Employees. In 1995 GEO Drilling Fluids Inc was privately acquired by the current management group.

GEO Drilling Fluids currently operates in all of the Far Western geographical regions. This includes oil, gas, and geothermal drilling. In each of these areas GEO Drilling Fluids maintains at least a 50% market share.
Among other accomplishments, GEO Drilling Fluids provided service on the deepest well ever drilled in California.
GEO Drilling Fluids also operates in the Eastern Rockies most notably in the Williston Basin servicing Bakken Shale Drilling.
The current operational management group has over 130 years (26 years on average) of drilling fluids experience.
